Pennsylvania’s food banks, hard hit by growing demand in the face of rising unemployment and a stagnant economy, joined forces today to deliver more than 12,000 constituent letters to legislators asking for increased funding in the state budget for anti-hunger programs.
Many of the thousands of largely hand written letters ask specifically for an increase in state funding to $24 million for the State Food Purchase Program, $3.5 million for the Farmers Market Nutrition Program and $1 million for the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System.
